Commonwealth Architects, in association with Perkins+Will, designed the interior for WestRock’s (formerly MeadWestvaco) new 11-story, 300,000 square-foot headquarters in downtown Richmond. The design addresses collaboration through an open office environment, by incorporating the use of huddle rooms and various work dynamics, including an open pantry and “Idea Alley,” an informal team meeting area, throughout the space.
Also included is an executive area on the 9th floor with a board room and other amenities, a conference center and customer experience room on the lobby level, and a food service and fitness facility. The project has received a four Green Globes rating (the highest offered) by the Green Building Initiative. This rating is “reserved for select buildings that serve as national or world leaders in reducing environmental impacts and efficiency of buildings.”
