New Design Brings New Energy to Electric Co-op

Commonwealth Architects recently completed an updated design and expansion for the headquarters of Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC). The project transformed a segmented office plan into an open and bright environment that invites personal interaction and collaboration.

Translating the idea of collaboration into a work environment is different for each client. Our interior designers worked closely with ODEC staff to envision how its renovated headquarters would look and how it would need to function to better facilitate teaming and promote communication. The result is a mix of spaces for privacy and a variety of casual meeting areas equipped with the latest technology. ODEC’s culture of private offices was maintained; however, glass partitions were used to allow natural light to infuse the whole office. Outfitted with comfortable seating and high tables with stools, the open break room offers a sense of community and a place to find good coffee.
