Built in 1813, Virginia’s Executive Mansion is the oldest continually occupied governor’s residence in the United States. Commonwealth Architects provided monitoring and inspection services during the recent repairs made to the historic plaster ceiling in the dining room. The damaged plaster was removed and replaced, replicating the plaster in other parts of the room. Commonwealth Architects also provided on-site monitoring and extensive photographic documentation of all phases of the work.
In addition, Commonwealth Architects partnered with Wiss Janney Elstner Associates to investigate the existing condition of the Executive Mansion’s roof and provide recommendations for corrective repairs.
All work on this project was completed in strict accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
