Chippokes Plantation lies on the south side of the James River, slightly downstream and across the river from Jamestown. The plantation consists of 1403 acres of woodlands and open fields. The fields are farmed by local area farmers, producing cotton, corn, soybeans and peanuts.
With a variety of eighteenth, nineteenth and early twentieth century structures scattered throughout the acreage, Commonwealth Architects was contracted to stabilize, weatherproof and renovate eighteen of these structures for Chippokes Plantation State Park. The project included various historic structures ranging from tenant houses to slave quarters.
