The U.S. Army, recognizing the need to rehabilitate Hill Hall, Building 257 at Fort Belvoir, contracted Commonwealth Architects to document, analyze, and propose rehabilitation recommendations for the building. The report included a detailed conditions assessment, a foundation assessment, a mold remediation investigation, and the development of a scope of work for the rehabilitation of the building. A second part of this project added a new courtroom design and a re-design of interior spaces to accommodate the anticipated expansion of staff.
Recognizing that Hill Hall is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register as a contributing resource to the Fort Belvoir Historic District, all proposed work complied with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
