Commonwealth Architects provided architectural and engineering services to Apple REIT, a real estate investment trust, as it expanded its headquarters in downtown Richmond, Virginia. The project introduced a new, contextually-designed office building into the urban fabric of Richmond’s Main Street Banking Historic District. The addition is compatible with the scale, massing, color, materials, and character of the adjoining 1893 Italian Renaissance-style headquarters, and the warm tan manufactured stone of the new exterior relates to the materials of other buildings in the district.
