Plant 64 Project Nears Completion

Commonwealth Architects, Capstone Building Corp, Pennrose Properties, and C.A. Harrison Companies are pleased to announce that the rehabilitation of Plant 64 in Winston-Salem, NC, for Innovation Lofts, LLC, continues into its final stages of construction with three buildings slated to open this summer. The former Factory 64 of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. is made up of five buildings, which are being adaptively reused into a mixed-use community in downtown Winston-Salem.

Advantageously located in the North District of the Piedmont Triad Research Park, the rehabilitation of Plant 64 will offer 242 one- to three-bedroom apartments and 9,500 square-feet of retail space, providing convenient residences for those working in downtown Winston-Salem’s Wake Forest Innovation Quarter and adjacent Wake Forest University Medical Laboratories.

The R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. was once the largest cigarette manufacturer in the United States. The 423,455 square-foot project site makes up an entire city block with railroad tracks to the west and includes five buildings: three factory buildings, a storage warehouse, and a power plant. The first phase of the project will open this summer that will include apartments and amenities for the residents.

The remaining two buildings of the project will open by the end of the year.
