Commonwealth Architects’ Rehabilitation Awarded ULI’s Most Innovative Project
The rehabilitation of the former Richbrau brew-pub into contemporary offices for RiverFront Investment Group was awarded the 2012 Most Innovative Project by the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Richmond. Commonwealth Architects’ adaptive reuse project for RiverFront was recognized for its contribution to excellence in design and innovative development practices.
The Urban Land Institute Richmond held its Vision Awards reception on November 28. The RiverFront Investment Group’s new corporate headquarters was recognized as the Most Innovative Project for its resourcefulness in use of land, materials, and energy; and excellence in design, construction, and economics.
Commonwealth Architects provided design services for the relocation of the private investment firm to Shockoe Slip in downtown Richmond, Virginia. The design that repurposed a former brew-pub into a modern, collaborative open work environment was singled out for successfully integrating contemporary office functions within the framework of a 19th century warehouse building. The winning RiverFront project was noted for innovatively re-using materials, for making a positive impact on the community and for serving as a catalyst to stimulate and sustain economic development.
ULI Richmond recognizes firms, organizations, local governments, projects and individuals in the ULI Richmond District for their contributions to excellence in design and innovative development practices, which promote the responsible use of land and for leadership in creating and sustaining thriving developments in our community.
