Commonwealth Architects’ Beacon Theatre Project Ushers in a New Era
The lights are once again shining in one of our latest rehabilitation projects: The Beacon Theatre in Hopewell, Virginia. This 1928 movie house has been transformed into a new multi-use venue for performing arts in the Tri-Cities area.
Commonwealth Architects is proud to have led the design team for this historic rehabilitation project. Once a source of civic pride, the Beacon Theatre has become abandoned and dilapidated since its closing in 1981. Inspired by the Beacon’s heritage and a continued commitment to deliver memorable moments of entertainment, the recent rehabilitation restored the theatre to its original splendor and saved one of the community’s most beloved buildings. The Beacon Theatre once again promises to shine as a cultural center for the city and catalyst for Hopewell’s continued downtown revitalization.
