First National Apartments Awarded ULI Vision Award

Commonwealth Architects’ was honored with a 2013 Vision Award from Urban Land Institute Richmond for the rehabilitation of the former First National Bank Building into the First National Apartments in Richmond, Virginia. Named the Best Multi-Family Residential Project, winners were announced at ULI’s Award Reception on December 4.

Commonwealth Architects teamed with owner Rushmark Properties and HITT Contracting Inc. to transform the former historic bank building into a mixed-use development with 154 apartments. The project was recognized with a Vision Award as the Best Multi-Family Residential Project for its design and development practices, which promote the use of land and resources and for its contribution in creating and sustaining developments in the community.

The First National Apartment project was also a finalist in the Best Adaptive Reuse category of the ULI Vision Awards. Commonwealth Architects’ restoration of the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre facade for Virginia Repertory Theatre was a finalist in the Best Rehab of Existing Structure category.
