This former restaurant parcel was strategically located in an area in which Virginia Credit Union wanted to have a presence. The client’s challenge was to keep the existing 5,800 SF one story building, but make it look and perform like a VACU prototype.
To accomplish this, our team applied signature VACU branch elements to the existing building, including a semi-circle entrance porch, an integrally colored CMU watertable base, a bold cornice and stringcourse statement, and simple storefront glazing with divided lites.
The design of the bank’s front entrance is strong and gives the illusion of symmetry. The design team was able to coordinate with VACU’s branding team to include signage and other graphical elements.
During construction, a number of hidden deficiencies came to light. Missing cavity flashing and through-wall flashing at floor level had to be added while keeping the existing bearing walls and brick veneer supported.
