The original manor house at Old Town Farm, built in the 1940’s, is located on a prominent bluff overlooking the Pamunkey River with expansive views to the south and west. NewMarket Services Corporation wanted to develop a corporate conference facility that would provide overnight accommodations for guests, combined with social gathering spaces and meeting rooms for business functions.
Commonwealth Architects began by developing a property master plan that would take full advantage of the distinctive site characteristics, existing building forms and foliage. Interior common spaces were enhanced and connected to new exterior terraces for dining and socializing. A large fire pit and 14 guest rooms — all with private baths — were designed. A freestanding 1,600 square foot conference center was designed in the style of the original manor house and carefully placed among the existing mature landscape. In a successful partnership with our client, Commonwealth Architects participated in the transformation of this historic farmhouse into a memorable riverfront destination.
