Commonwealth Architects assisted in the renovation of Henrico County’s former Dumbarton Library. Previously a public library, the 22,000 square foot space now houses the corporate headquarters of the Henrico County Recreation & Parks Department. The renovated space provides 15 offices, 25 workstations with 10-15 interns in flex space, storage space, and a large conference room that is used as a public meeting space for public use and community events.
The entire office exudes modern professionalism while incorporating the Recreation & Parks’ branding colors throughout. Glass front offices, LED lighting, and ceiling light wells are incorporated to provide both natural and artificial lighting, which was highly desired by the County. Display shelving provides a space for Henrico County’s collection of memorabilia as well as a collection of local art. On the exterior, Commonwealth Architects re-skinned the dated aluminum siding to provide a fresh look to the building’s exterior.
