Commonwealth Architects provided architectural services to Monument Construction, LLC for the adaptive reuse of the buildings located at 326-340 East Washington Street in Suffolk, Virginia. Covering almost 30,000 square feet of space, the building was transformed into a project of mixed uses including restaurant/retail, office and residential. In addition, the triangular-shaped parcel to the east was developed into a plaza with segregated areas for outdoor dining associated with the restaurant and retail uses, an elevated stage for entertainment, a water feature, public seating and a site perimeter wall with a trellis structure.

The project took advantage of Historic Investment Tax Credits, thus the architectural treatment of the building’s entry lobby and facades was critical in maintaining the historic character of the buildings.
