Commonwealth Architects’ Project Turns Former FFV Bakery into Apartments

After sitting vacant for seven years, the iconic Interbake building in Richmond, Virginia, is coming back to life. Construction is well underway to rehabilitate the former FFV Interbake factory, reviving a key property on the City’s Boulevard corridor.

Commonwealth Architects is currently providing architectural and engineering services for Interbake Partners, LLC, to repurpose the historic bakery into a residential development featuring 178 upscale apartments. Built in 1927 as the Southern Biscuit Company, the building is individually listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places. The former bakery produced numerous cookies and crackers, most notably the famous Girl Scout cookies and will be called The Cookie Factory Lofts. Work is anticipated to be completed in summer, 2014.

The rehabilitation project will help revitalize the Boulevard commercial corridor and serve as a catalyst for future development in the area.
